Il Mare
A FUSION OF `YOUR NAME‘ & `ABOUT TIME’ 📮
MY question: Is it possible to love someone too early and too late at the same time???
This is, by far, the most difficult love story I’ve ever watched; as if told from a different chapter of a different book. And yet, it carves its own rare & lonely path. It gives me a headache just thinking about how they might’ve lost each other in their respective timelines. The kind of loss no present moment could make up for. Not even the future could safely secure its repair, considering what had already preceded.
I like to think the house, Il Mare, healed what once felt empty while they lived there. The mailbox became a vessel of stillness & yearning. That’s why the line that stuck with me the most hit so hard:
“Solitude helps us connect with other people.”
They healed each other through words alone. Even when their “when” contradicted the other’s “now,” they somehow still found a way to truly connect. Yes, “Time” was this film’s central conflict, but they portrayed it so beautifully. What I really appreciate is that, even though their story leaned toward a tragic end, it closed on a note full of possibility. It makes me wanna believe in Quantum Entanglement over and over again!!! (lore: my all-time favourite theory!) Like they finally got the time and place right because the connection they have is the kind that vibrates on a deeper frequency, damn.
“Knowing you was my greatest luck. I’ll wish you luck this time. I wish you the best luck in love.”
I never thought I’d appreciate 2000s Korean cinema this much. The actors were phenomenal. The music, the pacing, everything!! It all came together.
