Wadjda
I will give my review as someone who's Saudi and experienced most ( if not all ) that happened in this movie
This was super realistic and i would like the to tell anyone who's saying it's islamphobic to shut up because they really don't know what it's like for girls here.
The movie made me tear up because i felt nostalgic , the scenery the houses and all the old things are just so nostalgic , i was surprised to see her owning music cassettes though ! Very cool , i knew I would love her the moment i saw that and saw her converse shoes lol.
The movie showed how people here act towards girls , such as saying girls can't ride bicycles , teachers telling little girls to cover up and just being awful towards them at school , her family being the way that they are with her mom trying to please her dad so he wouldn't marry a second wife ( at least that's what i assumed though I'm sure it's a second wife ).
Also i was a bit surprised to see her friends with a boy and no one really thinking much of it but whatever honestly , i loved the details of her room and the stores she went to ( very Saudi 2010s i felt so nostalgic ! ) . Her doing her best to get what she wants was inspiring , also the girl drawing on herself out of boredom is so relatable ! And painting your nails in school getting scared of getting caught is so real.
This movie is a must watch to be honest , it really shows how things are here for girls and i liked that her mom finally got along and spent the money to get Wadjda the bike when that weirdo teacher didn't give her her prize despite her winning just because she wanted a bicycle , a beautiful scene honestly it made me emotional.
I kinda had so much to day but i cannot articulate it accurately so this is it i guess :)
