I wish they delved more in Gethin’s relationship with his mother. It obviously shows they resolved the problems, but you didn’t see any of the actual scenes. Wish we got more of that, and maybe more into Mark’s friend he saw (where it’s implied he has aids). A beautiful movie, and a beautiful true story that i think was played out and acted out very well in this film. So sad that Mark died only two years after the ending scene parade, but great to know Jonathan is still living today. This movie was just so captivating, i was genuinely interested the whole way through. It was so heartwarming, especially that scene where Mark gives Joe the birthday pin showing that he’s legal now. It was so nice to see Joe discovering his sexuality, and really finding his voice, and learning how to accept himself. Filmed and written perfectly, to be honest.
The relationship between the people from the Welsh town and the LGSM was is special to me. The “Where are my lesbians? Where are my lesbians?” Was adorable. Them helping each-other discover who they truly are, teaching them how to dance, showing complete support to one another. I knew Cliff was gay from the start, but the silence in that scene and him breaking it with the “I’m gay,” and Hefina just saying “I know,” was played out perfectly. Devastating that he’d clearly hidden it for so long, but also so sweet to see how the LGSM really helped everyone feel more open with their identity.
