*why would I be mad at you, I don’t even know you… * this is a really underrated coming of age movie tbh, even tho it’s def a poetic justice ripoff😭😂😂 promoting female friendships, the trauma bonding LOL, and ofc chasing your dreams, we love!!! I love how they gave us mommy issue girlies a little representation 🌝 the movie was honestly a tear jerker but also pretty charming in the way that it still gave chick flick. britney, I love youuuu, she’s at her muggiest here and she’s so charming on screen. zoe saldana also really shines here and I’m obsessed w her southern accent icl. taryn my fav white trash queen very much did her thing too, probably the most dynamic of the main cast. but what a good balanced movie tbh. it was clearly made for TEENAGE GIRLS, hence it being a COMING OF AGE movie so I don’t care about petty critiques abt its fluffiness, it does what it’s meant to do and well!!

funny, interesting and bill is lowk really fine here wow! lark and natalie ily, the character had him a ROSTERRRR, you hear me?? ten out of tens across the board! but I can’t rank this too high bc cheating…😒 not something I condone

this movie was a lot. I’m not usually a fan of movies that try to make several different points at once and this is def one of those movies. I think it’s really prescient though, real ahead of its time. I hate how unsexy laurence fishburne is in this movie and that god awful accent, but Omar Epps acting lowkey saved the whole thing. like fuck. he’s such a good actor truly. but yeah, this movie really does show what life is like at a pwi that is supposedly a bastion of diversity and progressiveness when there’s a clear class and race divide. I especially love the way the racism is micro aggressive for a while and then suddenly erupts in violence, really shows how tensions build up. It makes you question the value of “higher learning” and respectability politics. The premise is amazing but the execution could have been better, like I mentioned before, it tries to cram too many storylines together. I was honestly only engaged when the black people were on the screen. but yea, I actually sorta like this movie, it’s just not a fav esp within singletons catalogue.

I really hate how this movie started off so cute and wholesome and then quickly got increasingly more gruesome 😭 I was stressedddd honey but in any case this was a pretty good one! I love that it covered the eldest daughter trauma and the genuine naivety that comes with exploring the world after tending to your family’s needs. It’s hard not to fall into the allure of boys and thrills when life comes with constant barriers. So I really liked the movie for that. One thing abt chantele is she was rambunctious as fuck and I love that. I’ve never seen a smart, rowdy black girl in this way, I too was in history class clocking tea about black pain and being told I was “too much” so I really felt homegirl but still mannn…she really stressed me out!!
