Tony
A film that really humanizes a man who was really perceived to be a larger than life being. It’s difficult to consider this movie a biopic because it doesn’t touch base upon the version of Bourdain that we are familiar with but instead it focuses on an unfamiliar chapter of his life that structures itself like a timeless coming of age story with a troubled teen paired with a band of misfits and an intense but endearing mentor. This is really refreshing because it feels like these mid budget indie films are becoming something of the past as big budget IP’s continue to dominate more and more. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Odysseus and Peter Parker, but every now and then, I need a Good Will Hunting-esque
film that has dialogue which actually sticks with me and more importantly something I can larp to cinephiles. Films of this genre do seem to be a lost art but in Matt Johnson we trust. Next stop Nirvana the band.. you know what I’m talking about
