Wicked
Wow. I am blown away. As an avid fan of the musical, my expectations were naturally high when I heard of this film in development, and also its choice to be split into 2 parts. Luckily, this movie delivered on every level I wanted it to. The production design, the dancing, the numbers, everything. Even the CGI animals didn’t look horrendous!
But the complete standout of this movie was the emotional performances of Erivo and Grande was what gave this movie my 5 star rating. The amount of sentiment that these two actors put into this film was stunning. You could feel all they felt from the initial loathing, to the unbreakable bond, and to the eventual heartbreak they felt during the last riff of Defying Gravity. Speaking of, their VOICES?!?!?!
I wholeheartedly believe this is the greatest musical to film adaptation to ever hit the screen. And it’s only the first half! The future is very bright for the wicked fandom, and I can’t wait to be a part of it again.
