I work in a cinema and occasionally programme screenings therefore I have objectively great film takes. @another.pl4ce // @surreal0115 on insta

Not every day you get to see a film like this in the cinema. Absolutely insane that this was pretty much all shot in a single apartment. 69 (lol) minutes of pure experimental filmmaking and homo-erotic arthouse perfection. Big Kenneth Anger vibes ofc but also made me think of more modern underground films like Center Jenny — which previously I’ve thought of as almost a piece of outsider art; a weird anomaly of a film born purely out of internet culture, but now see v much as part of the chronology of the queer Avant-Garde on film. So much to love about this and the pre-recorded intro before the screening was brilliant too! Fascinating to learn a bit about the production of this film and about James Bidgood (who I admittedly knew very little about beforehand).

Love how a 5 minute long, silent, experimental short film is how I find out Assayas and Cheung used to be married. I could watch this for hours; I really am finding myself falling more and more in love with Assayas. Something about his style, even when condensed down into an abstract short like this, just scratches a part of my brain and I love it.

Acc might be one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. Not because of how shocking or transgressive it is, but because of how terminally boring it is in spite of that. Has absolutely nothing going for it. Looks, sounds and feels like a parody of a parody of some teen drama Netflix slop. Maybe that’s the point? But even if that’s true it fucking sucks at that lmao.

Objectively a masterpiece of a film and I’m glad I finally got round to watching it but fuck me do I never want to see a Polanski film again. That ending would’ve been bleak even without the context of who made it, but with that context it’s utterly horrifying. Nicholson and Dunaway are absolutely phenomenal in this and have fantastic on screen chemistry. The screenplay, cinematography and just about every other aspect of the film are pretty much perfect. But yeah I think I’ve seen everything I ever want to see from Polanski now.
