Heretic
Wow, this was such an incredible and clever film about religion. The discussion about polygamy was very interesting and I wanted it to go longer. Hugh Grant is, holy shit, such a good actor. His expressions are so creepy and deceiving, especially using his intellect against the girls. I've had people who act like him, talking about conspiracy theories about everything and it's kinda annoying. Like why tf would you ask "which door I have a preference for?", like idk, one that opens???. I've been seeing Sophie Thatcher in everywhere lately like the rent is duee. I found alot of it confusing because they talk about the history of Mormonism that I don't know of until now. They talk alot about Joseph Smith about the controversies of promoting polygamy. It was such an interesting watch between the two girls believing that polygamy was used to increase the Mormonism community but Mr. Reed saying that it was just an excuse for Joseph Smith having an affair. I'm also confused about Mr. Reed saying that he wants to find the "true religion" but mostly is proving evidence that simulation theory is real? simulation theory ain't a religion though. WHEN I SAW A PICTURE OF DANTE'S INFERNO, I GOT SO EXCITED". Same thing with the "Don't drink the Kool-Aid" reference to the Jonestown Massacres as it associates with the plot-twist. The plot-twist was aight. I was indecisive with the ending because I wasn't sure if it was a good ending or a bad one. I was waiting the whole time for the church to find the girls. The writers need a raise for this film because holy, it was amazing. Sister Paxton is smart as hell, I ain't doin all that analyzing right when you enter the door. It's such a clever, narrative-driven, well thought out film that I highly enjoy. Usually religious films are a big red flag for me but this one just does a deep dive on the history and the realistic take on how what atheist basically believe in which I highly enjoy.
