Damn this movie just bombards you with emotion, almost to an overwhelming degree. I was impressed by Zhao’s ability to subjugate such a monolith of culture to a world that all people can recognize and resonate with. The feeling of love and loss were incredibly palpable in every scene.
I think this review sums up my feelings the best: “When she realizes the entire world will be crying for her son for generations, ah that's the power of art.” It wasn’t perfect. But I thought the message that art is a medium through which love is immortalized was so powerful.
