Barbie
(Spoilers ahead so pls stop reading now if you haven’t seen the film) Let me just start off by saying, we are all kenough. On that note, this movie was an amazing theater experience. The set, costume designs, Barbieland, and all of its glory are absolutely beautiful and this movie better win an Oscar for set design and costume design. Ryan Gosling was the best choice to play Ken. He absolutely bodies his portrayal of a lost, confused, toxic masculinity version of Ken while also having some hilarious and funny moments throughout this movie. Of course, Margot Robbie was the perfect choice for Barbie and the fourth wall break was a funny way of showing that. But most importantly, this film touches on a topic that is not showcased very often and that is societies expectations of women and how they “fit” in society. When Barbie goes to the gynecologist at the very end of the movie, it perfectly highlighted her change from needing to be this stereotypical pretty Barbie to a human who doing the best they can do for themselves even if it’s not what society expects. I only have one grope about this film and it’s that some of the scenes in the real world can drag the film along and take away from the story at hand, but the performances, acting, set design, story, and theater experience makes this a film that everyone (maybe not little kids haha) need to go to the theater and experience.
