Taxi Driver
Not my first time watching the film, but this is my first review of it.
Taxi Driver is a 1976 noir-crime drama directed by Martin Scorsese, starring Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel, with Scorsese himself making a brief cameo. It’s one of the best films I’ve ever watched, and it holds a special place in my life.
I first saw it back in 2020, right when COVID hit the world. During that time, I was really alone. Video games were fun at first, but it faded quickly, i was unamused by it and I started feeling isolated and also unmotivated. One day, while browsing YouTube, I stumbled across the trailer for Taxi Driver. Something about it instantly grabbed my attention, and I decided to watch the film. I would be lying if I said it didn’t help me through the 2020–2023 pandemic because it absolutely did.
Taxi Driver became important to me for three big reasons. First, it introduced me to Martin Scorsese’s filmmaking and Robert De Niro’s incredible acting. Second, it genuinely helped me get through one of the toughest periods of my life. And lastly, it’s simply a banger of a movie, a simply lovely masterpiece of a film from Martin Scorsese. It's dark, stylish, powerful, and completely my kind of jam.
