The Master

I think I really like this, it is an incredibly rich and hearty film to digest on a first watch. It obviously looks incredible, the more of PTA’s films i watch the more Anderson-isms I’m able to detect within his films. Specifically there is a shot where Freddie is walking on the harbour-side next to a yacht and the camera is following him whilst focussed on Lancaster Dancing on the boat, really blew me away, incredible camera work. Despite these “Anderson-isms” every film of his i watch feels completely new and refreshing to the previous.  The fairly heavy topic of Lancaster’s cult and the corruption of Freddie with his alcoholism and sexual desires is handled beautifully, feeling like an observer to two parties who are both, in different ways, malicious and vile makes an interesting and engaging experience.
