> ***"Like, what does it matter? What does it matter? It just passes. Yo. If I disappear, like, who cares? Nobody cares, man. Seriously. Yo, and that's okay. That's life. That's life. No, for real. Okay? It just passes. It just fucking... fucking passes."*** Sound of Metal is one of the most immersive films I've ever seen. Riz Ahmed is a fucking powerhouse here, delivering what I think is the best performance of his career. He brings so much intensity, vulnerability, anger, and humanity to Ruben that every moment feels painfully real. The film's sound design is maybe the best I've ever heard. The way it puts you inside Ruben's experience of hearing loss is astonishing, and at times it's genuinely terrifying. What keeps the film from being 5 stars for me is that a few stretches feel slightly repetitive, but that's only a minor complaint. A stunning film with a career-best performance from Riz Ahmed and some of the most innovative and frightening sound design ever put on screen.
