Sorcerer
Every moment of the journey is filled with tension, and these characters being so layered adds to every little moment. Friedkin takes what could have been a simple thriller and turns it into an existential nightmare, where every decision feels like it could be the last. The suspense isn't created through cheap tricks but through the unbearable weight of uncertainty. You become completely invested in these flawed men despite their pasts, because the film strips them down to their most human state which is desperate, vulnerable and at the mercy of forces beyond their control. Combined with Tangerine Dream's hypnotic score and some of the most nerve-racking practical sequences ever put to film, this film deserves it's praise.
