Banana Fish

IM FREEEEE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! meandering and meaningless plot that relies on trauma porn to even be somewhat interesting while pretending it has anything of substance to say. im truly confounded on how many people are giving this 5 stars. must be the  “little life” effect or something. just poor storytelling and annoying melodrama. i stuck with it tho granted on 2x speed. i wanted to like this so bad ash and eiji were the best part and they didn’t even do much with it and mind you thats like the plot…. banana fish is more concerned with telling and showing you how many times ash has been raped than anything else. there are so many better tragic gay stories that aren’t so offensive. i’d rather reread song of achilles (which this show honestly feels like an alternate version of if it was modern day and also bad) or call me by your name or portrait of a lady on fire like… also this anime is so inspired by western culture and they couldn’t even get a english dub ? that kinda pissed me off. HOWEVER i will give 10s where they’re deserved “Must be a nice dream”  at the end oh that was kinda slay imagine how much better it’d be if it supported an actual good story. sigh.
