Naked
Definitely one of the most… out there openings to a film to say the least. From the get-go, Naked introduces Johnny as a horrible character, and as a result, it's hard to find sympathy for him in the seeming shit hole that is his life, even further through how he doesn't seem to have a major problem with the way he lives either. Johnny’s lifestyle appears to follow the nihilistic motto that ‘nothing matters’ and as a result of that, Johnny acts on whatever impulses he pleases to experience whatever thrills he's looking for, simply because ‘nothing matters'.
I really liked Louise, she had a somewhat steady hold on her life, and I'm glad by the ending of the suggestion that Johnny didn't actually join her as I feel his introduction threw her and Sophie’s life into unneeded disarray.
My favourite parts of this film were, by far, the dialogue. It was so witty throughout and felt like a complete flip on the bleak and depressing nature of the story through how comedic some of the puns were.
I've been re-watching a scene from this posted on TikTok over and over for the last, at least, two months. The dialogue between Johnny and Louise, where Louise asks Johnny if he was bored in Manchester and he goes on a little rant. So, I was expecting this to be a solid piece of nihilist cinema, and I was half impressed, half disturbed at the events throughout the course of the film. It's suffice to say that rape is a painfully repeating occurrence, which finally explains the rating. As a result, this film for me is a one and done type. However, that doesn't take away how amazing I found this.
