Stand by Me
This is the white version of Monster (2023) to me.If I had a nickel for every time I watched a river phoenix film where he spills his guts out near a fireplace to his brunette best friend I'd have two nickels... etcetcI feel like I've watched this film before... I probably had as a kid tbh and wished I was a boy, it seemed so much cooler; (an aside: but there is a severe lack of films that have a group of girls going on adventures compared to boys; that's why I adore Turning Red so much). This has so much heart; I think it captured being young and coming face to face with your own mortality whereas u think everything is possible and perhaps u can overcome it all "once you become older," that's why Chris' character who is forced to grow before his years is gut wrenching because he understands that it doesn't work that way; he knows his place in the world after being let down by all the adults in his life.
