The Dressmaker
As to how this flew under my radar for so long is beyond me.
Loved how the movie subtly alludes to the play Macbeth throughout its entirety. From the copy of the book being offhandedly mentioned to Tilly outright quoting the three witches infamous line.
The movie was clearly inspired by the work as both stories are downright tragic, family drama and all. Yet still allowing for a comedic aspect to shine through as not to overwhelm the viewer with the sorrow of it all.
Loved the moments where the camera would stray from a common shot and opt for style. Wasn’t expecting this to be such a stylized film. I often found it almost campy at times, and I adore campy films.
Lastly, Molly was by far my favorite character. Absolutely rude but played so well you couldn’t help but love her even in her worst moments.
