Obsession
ALL THE HYPE IS TRUE.
I was unsure going into this watch, as I'm usually skeptical of new horror movies, even one's that get raving reviews such as Obsession. Many of the tropes and trappings of horror have grown extremely stale to me, but this film has a creative edge to it that many try and fail to achieve.
This film is extremely awkward, intentionally so. Claustrophobic shots that make you squirm in your seat to get away, long uncomfortable monologues designed to make you cringe and write. This entire film is tension that never feels like it releases its grip on you.
Inde Navarrette puts on a career defining performance here, she's absolutely phenomenal in this and she's definitely the standout of the film when it comes to the cast. The way she plays with movement and expressions is just something to marvel at. Great stuff.
I honestly had a great time with this film, despite how weird it can get, I still had so much fun. It's not extremely deep or anything, and most of its themes are pretty straightforward, but it doesn't feel like a hindrance to the film. It's tightly written and a blast to watch.
Also fuck Baron, that guy should die NOW.
