Shin Godzilla
This movie feels almost akin to a stress induced nightmare. You cannot escape and must only watch with wide eyes and clenched fists as men in crisp suits decide the fate of millions. Children are killed and families flee from their homes as they sit and wait, going through dozens of layers of bureaucracy painfully slowly.
Didn't expect to cry watching this, but watching Shin rampage Tokyo through the night with that song in the background really got to me. There was something oddly beautiful about it, despite the destruction and agony of poor Shin. They don't mean to cause harm, they are just simply doing everything within their power to survive just as the people of Japan are. When you think about it, Shin doesn't seem quite so monstrous.
Minus half a star because the pacing drags a bit in the last half, but other than that, this movie is surprisingly heartbreaking and extremely well done.
