This movie being based on a true story and real-life rehab program makes it all the more special! As so many movies remind us of how broken the system is, it is equally important to be reminded that effective rehabilitation programs do exist and have the possibility to change lives. Theater provided the men the opportunity to be vulnerable and express a hidden side of their own masculinity.
While the film could have easily leaned toward white savior complex, the fact majority of the power and voice is given to the inmates (the real life people) makes it not so. I also enjoyed how it does not oversimplify or romanticize their experiences, still showing the harsh realities of incarceration. Overall a very beautiful story about hope, art, vulnerability, brotherhood, and justice.
First time trying to sound smart, kinda nervous. In simple terms… this movie was very beautiful and I cried.
