The writing in both of these isn’t very strong, especially the diologue. Directing wise at least I can say Derrickson shoots for a chilling atmosphere that gave me more of an appreciation over the first one. Some sick dream stuff, everything else was whatever.

Benny having his Ethan Coen moment rn. I really liked the score at times when it was more meditative and somber, paired with the atmosphere and overall look evoked by the documentary esq approach on this true story, loosely centered around a man coming to terms with who he is. But things end up feeling glossed over and followed by a lot of typical biopic beats not allowing things to be fleshed out in a more engaging way I would’ve liked. Between this and the heightened fictitious depicted in Magazine Dreams from this year mostly being just fine, I hope one day someone can make a truly great picture on the theme of the masculine strength and detriment in sport/survival catalyst in these hunks of men. Also liked what they did with the ending lol.
