Chicago
This is the CVNTIEST musical to ever exist.
From the start of the film, I was already fully engaged. It's like a fucking time machine boo. I didn't know what the US was like in the 1920s, but this movie is literally what I imagined it would've been like.
Let's start, the visuals??? Omg, it's so gorgeous I cant even. Everything is so bright and neon lights-y. The makeup, the set, the lighting. And then when the jail scenes, everything turns grey until the numbers start, the colors are back on. I love the use of sillhouettes and the dramatic zoom ins and quick pans in the movie. It's theatrical and perfect.
THE ACTING???, don't even get me start bitcccccchhhh. Let's start from Renèe Zellweger, omggg this gurl. Roxie is the original "im just a girl 🎀". In this movie, she ain't love nobody, but herself. She's delusional, shes fame hungry, she wants it more than anything. And Renèe Zellweger ate it up, she became Roxie.
And then Catherine Zeta-Jones. She EMBODIED Velma Kelly, her presence, her gestures. She also ate every single choreo like..???
Then QUEEN LATIFAHHH, SHES CALLED QUEEN FOR A REASONN. BOSS ENERGY ALL THE WAYYYY. AND HER VOCALS OMGGGG.
I love movies, and I love musicals. This movie I love that this movie gave all, it's a crime movie, it's theatrical, it's cinematic, and the music good too ho.
