Hamnet
One of the most raw emotions I have ever felt in a movie. One of the best I've watched in a while.
I see people calling this movie an Oscar bait, or whatever. But, fuck them, seriously, this movie is beyond beautiful. Chloè Zhao... you've killed me with this one.
The movie starts, and right of the bat, it's already mesmerizing, the wide shot of Agnes, in the forests.. is just wow. I just love this movie's cinematography, the wide shots, the use of color representations, the lighting, it all came together tremendously well.
Of course, the acting. Masterclass performance from Jessie Buckley, she has that Oscar engraved with her name already. In this movie, I saw a mother, who is blaming herself for her son's death, a mother who is grieving cause she no longer can hold her son. I felt every emotion in Jessie Buckley's delivery, it's her voice and eye expression, I can see it in her eyes and hear what she feels through her voice. Then, Paul Mescal, he was snubbed of a nomination, he was spectacular, he is so good with his facial expression, that scene when he says the famous line "To be or not to be, that is the question" as he was considering jumping off a jetty. Then, of course Jacobi Jupe, I fear he is better than every single kid actor out there, sorry not sorry, just kidding. That scene where he switch places so Judith lives, bye. Noah Jupe, wow, in my head you are still the boy from Wonder, then in this movie, you played as Hamlet, I did not udnerstand a word you said, but man I felt everything. Then, Joe Alwyn, you are great here, really got that big brother vibes from you, loved it.
Then, the score. The melancholic violins in the score help build the atmosphere of this movie so much. I think the pairing of Noah Jupe and Jessie Buckley's performance in that ending sequence got me crying through the entire night.
This movie is perfect, but I can't bare to watch it again. Thank you Chloè Zhao for this perfectly well done movie.
