Melancholia
Yall's.... This is movie showed me depression and anxiety in human form
I loved it. Don't get the hate for it. The unsettling portrayal of the burdening depression and the eerie atmosphere kept me so engaged.
I kind of like that the camera feels handheld, it almost like it is a live footage of the Justine falling deeper into depression until she hit that feeling of loss and hopeless towards anything. Starting from the wedding reception, she was trying to smile, then the depression starts to weigh her down, then the next day, she can't even move or do anything. She feels empty, tired, exhaust, even though she hasn't done anything.
We also got to see Claire's anxiety getting worse and worse. And they portrayed it so so accurately in my opinion.
The visuals are amazing, like that opening sequence. And ofc, the acting. They all ate this up. If I meet Kristen Dunst and she ain't depressed like this, I'd be surprised as hell. Cuz damn, she really showed it here.
And also Charlotte Gainsbourg, she acted perfectly, she is anxious all the time. The overthinking, the searching up "death" theories are so real. And I fucking love that she panicked and covered her ears even after the 3 of them agreed to hold hands and let everything go when the planet collides.
I loved it.
