The Cure
FUK WHOEVER MADE THIS FILM
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
IM CRYING MY ASS OUT AT 3 AM IN THE MORNING. 😭😭😭😭
Into my Top 4 immediately. Period.
I feel utterly sick and devastated. That scene at the barn when Dexter was chasing the yacht guys with his open wound, it was all funny and they had to ruin my vibes by making him say that "my blood is poison" line. I really hope to whoever made this, both sides of their pillow are HOT every night you go to sleep.
On a serious note, this movie is so beautiful and heartwarming, especially when we realize Erik was Dexter's cure, even if it was temporary. And then their chemistry, their bond 😭. Their bond is friendship at its purest form.
I wanna talk about Erik. Erik was very anti-Dexter at first, cause he got AIDS, and yes it's clichè where they slowly get closer as days go by, but in my opinion this movie portrays Erik character progression so affectionately, maybe because of its writing or the framing. But I FELT Erik's care for Dexter surface. We can see it from the small details like Erik asking Dexter if he's okay every once in a while. In the beginning, Erik's focused on finding the cure, but then we see that change when he decides that they should retreat from their journey to New Orleans because Dexter is at a critical condition. So now, Erik's more focused on being with Dexter with the time he has left. But it is sad that Erik wasn't able to see that he, himself is the cure that has been keeping Dexter lively and accompanied, he only found out about that when Dexter's mom said it directly to him.
Every scene with them both just feels like a warm hug. I was really hoping this one has a happy ending, and it is, just in a different form. It's such a bittersweet ending. OH AND SCREW THAT DOCTOR. "you might be one of them (Talking about the survivors), I knew you were special blah blah blah" I HATE YOU. I HATE YOU. I REALLY HOPED THAT MIRACLE HAPPENED TO HIM.
Okay I wanna talk about the most important scene in this movie. The Tent Scene. Bye.
Dexter : *Suppose you kept going another 18 billion light years, what if there's nothing out there? Suppose you kept going another trillion times further, so far out you see nothing. The light from the universe would be fainter than the faintest star. Infinitely cold. Infinitely dark. Sometimes if I wake up and it's dark, I get really scared, like I'm out there and I'm never coming back. *
Erik: *Here, hold onto this when you sleep. And if you wake up and you're scared, you'll say, "Wait a minute. I'm holding Eric's shoe. Why the hell would I be holding some smelly basketball shoe a trillion light years from the universe? *I must be here on earth, safe in my sleeping bag, and Eric must be close by."
Those are the reasons why the tent scene is so important. It's full of emotion, vulnerability, it's so raw and true. Dexter was so afraid of just dying and being in this never ending state of nothingness, and Erik comforted Dexter with a simple shoe, but it comforted Dexter, that night. Like a medicine, like a cure.
And then the ending scene, which is just as important. So.. I predicted that Erik was gonna give his shoe to Dexter, but shit I did not expect Erik to take Dexter's shoe with him. And that scene made me WEEP right away. That last sequence, where Erik lets go of Dexter's shoe into the river they usually explore. Erik bids farewell to their friendship and Erik has to let go and keep moving forward in life, because Dexter is now free of any pain. And the symbolism. (Now that Dexter's shoe's a part of the river, Dexter's presence will always be near Erik) Bye. I can't.
The acting in this movie were insane. I loved it so much. I loved the music, the vibes.
I love this movie with all my heart, but I don't even know If I could rewatch this.
R.I.P Brad Renfro, you were truly a one of a kind child actor. 🕊
