The Shining
Watching this film for the first time was an incredible experience. What stood out to me most was the vivid colours, and of course the bone-chilling acting of Jack Nicholson. After watching The Exorcist and The Thing, I've realised that if you have a great director, a great cast and a great script, a film from the 80s is going to be just as fucking brilliant as any horror film released today. 'The Shining' is a genuinely scary film, and it doesn't rely on any cheap thrills to scare its audience. The casting is just amazing, I could go on and on about Nicholson';s performance, but I really want to emphasise how much Shelley Duval brings to this film. Her ethereal features almost add to the vivid, intimidating set, and the juxtaposition between her quietly brave, motherly acting and Jack Nicholson's terrifying wild rage is just incredible to watch. The kid's acting, especially when he was yelling "REDRUM" is also amazing. Probably one of the best horror films I have ever watched, right up there with Get Out.
