Aftersun
Fine, I’ll just record it with my little mind camera…Putting together the pieces of remembering someone you lost is much like piecing together a blurry night at a rave: fragmented and hazy. This film tackles the possibility of understanding what people are silently going through, mediating dynamics of age, power, and gender, as well as questioning how the roles we fulfill require us to cope with our suffering. Aftersun can’t block the sun’s rays but it can prevent you—and the ones you love—from getting burned. But after a while, the sun burns you anyway, piercing through the layers of protection you applied. The film uses its form to mimic the feeling of holding back your suffering until you can’t anymore; all the emotion the film holds hits the viewer at once like a wave. Fantastic needle drops like Tender and Under Pressure (which started my hysterical crying for the rest of the film). Hard hard watch if u love ur dad
