if youre looking for a dumb, silly, campy, entirely wacky, horror-comedy, this really hits the nail in the head. weird shit happens, there are great characters and dynamics, the set is beautifully crafted, fairly well acted too - genuinely a fun 90min film perfect for friday night escapism :)

the acting was great and had a great third act. i feel like a lot of integral parts were just glossed over but tbh i felt my interest fading in and out of this. i feel like my criticisms outweigh anything i liked. great score and cinematography but the writing was so shaky imo. the way the dialogue was modernized completely put me out of when and where this film was supposed to take place. i wish we saw more of the trials and the fury of the gods (the sirens, the cyclops, and so much more were just grazed upon). i wish we got more about how calypso felt about odysseus - why did she just let him go? i wish we got a more maternal and less static version of penelope (frankly all characters were static). i wish we got more of telemachus rather than him just going and coming back. i wish we got more of odysseus manipulation and cunning wit rather than just shooting an arrow into a cyclops' head and the focus on fighting with brute force. i dont know even why he was made likeable - it completely detracts from the whole point of the book and what defines a "hero" and how flawed someone becomes when theyre on the brink of survival. why does nolan insist on making his protagonists feel regret and remorse when they can just exist how they are meant to be? its repetitive and conventional and exhausting. i wish we got more of odysseus' relationship with the suitors. i wish it looked more like greece and that the production design was more influential bc girl it didnt even look like fucking greece and the costumes were unremarkable for a story as incredible as this. i genuinely have so many issues with this film. for the movie of the decade it certainly doesnt hit it. on a more personal note, i wouldnt understand if this gets best picture - project hail mary is the movie of the year to me. if you want to take on a story so socially and politically important and fully ambitious - do it fucking right. i dont know what the political or social impact this was supposed to have or theme this was intending to get across. loyalty? preservation? resilience? survival? this movie barely got any of those points across. nothing mattered to me. nothing had me leaving the theatre feeling anything but apathy or thinking about anything that made me question my perspective. there was no gripping emotional impact for me except the sadness i felt when the cyclops died. i just feel filled with disappointment and exhaustion

love. cant relate to the whole sex part but i love that there is this bold universal relatability to overcoming hardship and heartache and adversity and dysfunction with hope and togetherness. equally great at stirring up anxiety and tension and softness and harmony. great score and cinematography. literally films that double as plays are my fav thing (ex: 12 angry men) that kiss between penelope cruz and olivia wilde should have been way longer

fuuuuuuck yeah thats my kara! they made some well deserved changes from the comic. really wish i had gone into this not knowing the story though - i probably would have appreciated it more. the cast ate down. kind of left the theatre not feeling much though. it didnt have the hope and heart i was anticipating it would have also why the f is kara younger than clark??
