Black Lagoon

I liked it! It is prone to leer at its female characters but at least women are depicted in a cooler way than media (especially Japanese media) usually shows them. I really like Rock and Revy, their dynamic towards the end of the series is really fun and more grounded than in the beginning where Revy is just like a violent loose cannon for no reason.  The ways in which violence changes you and becoming a criminal isolates you from “civilized society” is explored a lot in Black Lagoon. Rock is obviously a character who resents the poor treatment which is common among working class japanese people, being essentially discarded by his boss in the early episodes. Revy frequently talks about the fact that people in their line of work are doomed to live out their violent pursuits of wealth and power until death.  I like the dub and the cursing sounds more natural than any other anime I’ve seen.  I think my favorite episodes are 11-12
