Stagecoach
This is probably the 2nd best Western I’ve ever seen, and the first is the good the bad and the ugly, meaning that this movie was a very worthy effort.
Every scene is really entertaining and it’s genuinely hard to guess the plot of the movie and it makes you concerned for every character and how they will end up. All the dialogue is really great and revealing of character and story.
I watched this at like 1-4 am and was thinking about going to sleep but the movie was so good I just watched it all the way through.
Every character is likable, hateable or entertaining enough that there’s something beneficial when anyone is on screen.
The story of the kid and Dallas being more happy without the obligations and hang ups of “civilization” (really just meaning American societal expectation) is really lovely and makes you root for the two of them. The movie has some really badass lines and influential action sequences.
Granted they didn’t age well in more ways than one; it should be noted the somewhat unambiguous evil villain role which natives are presented as in this movie. Oh and I’m pretty sure the director and John Wayne are kinda some bastards. Just saying. Good movie though!
