It must be nice to always believe you know better, to always think you're the smartest person in the room. No it's awful.

One of those high-octane action-thrillers where you probably won't remember the plot, just that you had a decent time.

Now, this is the inverse of what I was talking about in my "Is God Is" review; the absurdist style is something I couldn't get behind. I respect what Boots Riley is doing, but he just isn't my type of filmmaker. However, it's extremely original, and you will see nothing like it this year, hell, probably this decade.

Sometimes with overly stylish movies, it can be hit or miss for me, and it took about 20 minutes for their style to settle in before I became completely captivated by the story. It makes a standard vengeance story feel fresh and exciting, helped by the fact that the two leads, played by Kara Young and Mallori Johnson, bring the necessary performance, energy, and conviction to their roles. I wasn't aware of them before, but they are now on my radar. Sterling K. Brown plays the epitome of evil, and while it can feel a tad caricature-ish, it's probably needed to make the conclusion satisfying. I'm really happy to see Vivica A. Fox get a role in an actual good movie; god knows how long that's been. Everybody else gives good performances, and I'm happy to say my expectations were exceeded.

holy snorefest.
