Might as well get this over with. This might be the greatest movie of all time but more importantly, it is one of the greatest depictions of a human being on screen. When people talk about movies like this, ones who center around religion, they often talk about religious objectivity. In my opinion, there’s no such thing as religious objectivity and if there was, this certainly doesn’t have it. God has always been seen as this higher authority over humans but by the end of this movie, god is to the main character not a god but rather the universe responding to our actions. When he’s saying “Will God forgive us?”, you can take that as asking “Have humans done too much on this earth?”. Have they disagreed too much? Have they harvested too much? Have they token too much from earth without ever wondering what will happen when the well runs dry? I have too much rushing in my head about this movie and don’t know if I’ll ever be able to say all of what I can say or if even any of this came out comprehensible. I guess we’ll see.
