"Are there no gods... no Buddha? If you exist, hear me. You are mischievous and cruel! Are you so bored up there you must crush us like ants?" Ran lived up to every expectation I had and somehow still managed to exceed them. The dialogue is magnificent, every character is unforgettable, and every tragedy feels both inevitable and painfully human. Every frame is a painting, yet it's the words that lingered with me long after the credits rolled. Without a doubt, this has already earned a place among my favorite Japanese films.
