i love you mads mikkelsen as tonny.

“Hija mía, no debes confiar en ningún hombre.” “¿Ni en mi marido siquiera?” “No. Toda precaución es poca.” ay pedro, god, i adore you. what a mastermind, what an incredibly creative soul. amazing film, it was my introduction to Almodóvar, and thankfully i Spanish is my mothertongue so i had the full experience. this movie is whacky, hilarious, weird, gorgeously off-putting and fantastic, but it's definitely a film you have to watch twice (and you'll love it both times) since it's so fast-paced, too many things happening at the same time, blink-and-you'll-miss-it sort of situation.

i love it when both sides are off-putting and weird. the slurs felt like a bit too much.

the film completely excels in visual storytelling, aesthetics? mastered. i felt so sorry for this poor girl the entire movie. and very disgusted by HH. the point of this movie is to be disgusting, yet still appeals to certain audiences who do feel like H.H., which is always concerning. I can't help but think that the execution could be much better, though if you pay attention to the movie, even without knowing anything about it or the book, you can figure out that H.H. is a disturbed, immoral man from the beginning, let's just remember he says this in reference to Annabelle: "I was like a poet whose rhymes, the rhythms of his meter, are determined by the beat and sweep of his first love. The child I loved was no more, and I kept looking for her in others, long after my own childhood had gone." H.H. is a creep from the beginning, some people are just too blind to see it, apparently. beyond that, the film was enjoyable, disturbing, uncomfortable, with a steadiness that allowed no boredom. wouldn't rewatch for a third time.
