i went into this as someone who has never seen an evil dead movie because i heard that it could stand alone as a whole, but dear god was i disappointed. i think as someone who didnt have a fondness and nostalgia of the original i was able to see that it honestly was just not that great of a movie. the comedy was poorly executed and even more badly timed, i assume from what ive heard that the characters are supposed to be snarky and cruel, but they just seemed desperate. at times it felt like it was kinda riding the tailcoats of sinners in the way of the family ties and trying to convince the family to "join them". movies about abused women made by men will never fail to disappoint me

using the found footage trope to not actually have to show any of the "scary" stuff is such a cheap copout. i really wanted to enjoy this movie but the most i can give it is that a few of the shots were unsettling, the fact that i was supposed to find the dark cloaked figures scary was laughable. at first i thought it was campy that the documentary style was so bad but then i realized that was the genuine directional style of the movie
