Midsommar
It’s been a while since I first saw this, way back when it was in theaters. I had avoided trailers and posters for months because I was so impressed by Ari Aster’s work on Hereditary that I wanted to go in completely blind. My wife actually surprised me with it, she bought tickets without me knowing, had lunch planned before the showing, one of my favorite activities after. A whole day centered around me, so I could see this movie I had been anticipating. Since then, I’ve wondered if how great that day was has maybe skewed my vision of this film? I’m happy to report, it didn’t. This movie fucking bangs. It goes so hard, it’s so god damn good. I love it, every second of it. Florence Pugh is a fucking TREASURE. Will Poulter truly took this role and ran with it. I truly think Ari Aster is one of the best minds in horror currently, and I truly can’t wait for his next venture with Disappointment Blvd.. A genius, honestly. Everything about this works from the setting, to the effects, to the music. All of it. I can’t say enough good things. The amount of foreshadowing? Chef’s Kiss. Love to see it. As for the story, I guess I underestimated just how shitty Christian is. Sure some people find the ending sad, and like it’s a bad ending, but me? I say “Good for Her”.
