50 First Dates
this easily being the best adam sandler film 😭 the buildup of their relationship was actually really good 🥹 it even felt like they were still building it up until the end; everything felt slow in a good way, and it lowkey made every minute worth it, imo.
I love how the angst was just part of the plot and didn’t overpower everything else. I was also impressed how the movie captured the fantasy of falling in love with the same person over and over again. It shows that falling in love doesn’t just happen once with one person or stop once your heart learns to love them. Instead, it becomes a collective experience built through the everyday moments you spend together. It’s shown in the way Henry tried different techniques every day just to talk to Lucy, knowing she wouldn’t remember anything.
Some people are saying it’s like a horror movie, but things like this actually happen in real life. A huge plot point and message of the movie is that life constantly changes and needs to keep changing, even for disabled people. She couldn’t form short-term memories of him, but he became a long-term memory or idea in her mind because he exposed her to new experiences over a long period of time. By the end of the movie, you can see that she only needs the tapes for the details, but she’s comforted by his image and voice almost immediately when she turns them on. He accommodated her wishes and helped her through the downsides and struggles that came with it. She wanted to live a normal life and not be “held back,” and that’s another very important detail.
