Spider-Man
I love Tobey Maguire’s version of Peter Parker’s origin story in Spider-Man. Underneath Spider-Man, he’s still just Peter—trying his best to live up to something way bigger than himself after what happened to Uncle Ben.
The quote Uncle Ben left, “With great power comes great responsibility,” truly became the core of the film and Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man. You see it when Peter chooses not to stop the thief, thinking it’s not his problem, only for it to cost him something he can never get back. That moment becomes his turning point that made him realize he’s not just some guy who got bitten by a spider—he’s Spider-Man now, and that power can either protect or destroy the things he love.
It’s mirrored in Green Goblin too. He uses his power for destruction, and in the end, it’s that same power that kills him.
Another thing I love is how the quotes aren’t just there, it’s relevant by the way they foreshadow the characters’ paths. Like when Green Goblin says, “We are who we choose to be.” It foreshadowed how in the end, Peter chooses to become the person Uncle Ben believed he could be.
