Paris Is Burning
HomeThis was one of the most refreshing and raw things that I’ve ever watched in my life, I was truly in deep reflection as every minute passed. To watch this from a modern perspective is so thought provoking because it makes you realize just how much culture derived from black/brown queer communities and just how disenfranchised they have been and still are. We truly owe it all to these folks! Watching this was sad at the same time because you realize that all the people from the interviews had so much life in them and these dreams and they all died prematurely, it was so disheartening to reflect on the reality of what it means to be a working class queer person of color in society. I wish I could give these girls the World.
Anyways, this shit banged I can’t even put it into words.
ALSO throughout the doc, Frank Ocean’s “imma read his ass like a LaBeija” line literally kept playing over and over in my mind.
