Moonlight
Act 1 Little
The opening act creates and expands these characters phenomenally, the atmosphere is immediately known and the town is immediately set.
“What’s a faggot”
This is not only about a boy struggling with his sexuality and self being, this is also a generational movie about the generation of struggle of black boys.
Chiron is a bright boy who is being tarnished by his community and upbringing, you can tell the truth to this story is not just Chirons, but many little black boys all over.
Act 2 Chiron
Struggling to separate himself from his past, Little tries his best to transform into Chiron.
“It’s all love and all pride in my house”
Chiron is getting the appreciation needed, despite that he still struggles immensely.
Teresa just like Juan try at every moment to not guide Chiron but to teach him, constantly at every step they are trying to turn him into Chiron.
Kevins analogy for the breeze reminded me of “paid in full”
“You cry?”
Such an amazing line and the idea behind it is phenomenal, Kevin just like Juan and Teresa is supporting Chiron and giving him everything they can.
The end to Chiron was phenomenal just amazing, I loved it and it was a much needed break thru in the story.
Act 3 Black
“You ain’t never been much for sleepin”
Chiron has now fully transformed into Black,
Taking the advice and guidance Juan once gave. Now struggling with what once was instead of what is, constantly reminded by his past.
I love this movie, the first 2 acts are my favorite and I’m such a fan of the 3 act style.
Just great, perfect even
