John Wick: Chapter 4
Before I watched this I saw the runtime and went in with mixed feelings. I find that action films can usually struggle with longer runtimes, keeping up the pace and adrenaline is no easy feat, especially with a 4th installment where it's easy to tread the same ground.
With all that being said though my time with John Wick 4 flew by, and it never once felt stale or drawn out.
There's so much that I loved, the first thing is the sets. There so many unique sets and each one is used to it's full potential to squeeze out every ounce of badass sequences you can think of.
The cinematography is also absolutely stellar. There are some shots here that should be framed in a museum they look that good, that whole scene in the club? The Birdseye one-shot in Paris? I loved it all and I had a huge grin on my face the whole time.
The music is so freaking good too, everything just comes together to make the best action scenes I've seen.
I can't even begin to understand how some of these scenes were created and choreographed, especially the one with all the cars, that had me on the edge of my seat.
I loved Donnie Yen as Caine, the way he fights is so fun, he quite literally knocks a guy out with a looney tunes wind-up bunch and it came completely out of left field which made me love it even more.
My issues with the previous films are pretty much non-existent here too, there isn't any whacky worldbuilding that was present in John Wick 3 and instead John Wick 4 works on the foundations laid down by it's previous installments without needing to add anything more.
The plot is pretty basic, but I think John Wick operates at its best when the plot isnt the focus to make way for some truly creative action sequences.
