Parasite
This was one of my first introductions to foreign cinema when I watched it a few years ago. I was blown away by it back then, but after watching more films in general and specifically more foreign films I wanted to see how this stacked up after broadening my horizons.
It's safe to say this is still just as good as it was the first time, maybe even better to be honest. Parasite is one of those rare instances where you can't easily explain why it's as good as it is, there are just so many perfect moving parts that work together so harmoniously that it leads to a masterpiece.
One of my personal favourite things on show is the visual storytelling and the use of verticals within the story. It uses the glowing heights and dark damp depths to create a simple yet layered metaphor for class and social standing.
On a rewatch I really felt like I could enjoy every little moment more as well, Parasite demands your attention with it's sharp writing that allows you to pick apart any line of dialogue and find something deeper.
Still firmly sits as one of my favourites and sets an intimidating bar for film as a whole that I don't think has been beaten nor will it be beaten anytime soon.
