Secrets & Lies
I literally can't fathom how someone can write such lived in and real characters, every single character in this film feels like someone you either will or already have interacted with. When you take those ridiculously well written characters and give them to actors who put in such human performances, combining the everyday subtleties and complex emotions and you get a stellar film that has you feeling like a fly on the wall as you peer into these people's lives.
One thing that really hit for me was how well Mike Leigh captures the broken homes that the 90's were known for, as a child of one of those homes the pinnacle moment of the film reminded me a lot of my own family and childhood, despite the actual specific context having no relation to my own experiences.
I think that in of itself is proof to just how well written this is. Despite your own experiences and how closely they mirror that of Secrets & Lies, there will be something that has you connect and relate with it's themes.
