The Haunting
“all that is gone and left behind”
”and we who walk here… walk alone”
well it was certainly haunting.
i was expecting something cheesy and over the top because i didn’t have much faith in old horror. i remember my mom saying this movie chilled her to the core. the black and white had me thinking how scary could it really be? but there was something about it. the house in itself was a character and i love when movies do that.
there was some underlying feeling of sadness but so deeply rooted that it was in fact haunting (pun intended). some of the saddest and most poignant lines came from Eleanor. it’s like i knew her. it’s like i was her. i was never scared i was never fearful but it was something in her mind and the things she said that rattled me. every move she made made my heart beat louder and my palms sweat. i know it’s based on a story and i must read that story. also i’ve seen the most recent rendition of haunting of hill house and there is always something that plagues Eleanor. in every single edition there was something the house wanted with her and all she wanted was to be wanted.
