La Chimera
way more magical and entertaining than i ever thought it could be based on the little i read about it going in. the whole thing is very shakespearean - the ensemble of charming and mischievous secondary characters, a few almost
"jester-esque" performances of songs with key subtext and exposition (easily my favourite thing i've seen in a film this year), and even a cheeky aside...? and god does that 16mm ever look nice. AND some super 16? game over. there's so much to love it's easy to get lost in, and although i think it overstays its welcome just a bit, the length does allow us to piece things together ourselves. credit to kieran for that last point! he went to the washroom about halfway through and a woman appeared on screen who looked a lot like elizabeth debicki and so when he got back i told him that she was in it. she wasn't :(
