The Master

First I want to make this clear that I do like this film. PTA hasn’t made a bad film from what I’ve seen. This would still be considered the best in any other filmography. That being said I don’t think I got this film. At least I didn’t get a central theme. I guess it’s about why people get into cults. Sexual freedom, trauma, charismatic leaders. But they don’t feel as developed. Both Phoenix and PSH are great and the supporting cast had some genuine surprises. Like PTA’s other films it’s beautifully shot slash scored Not bad. But probably my least favorite PTA so far. Though probably the “Joaquin Phoenix has a mental breakdown film” I would prefer watching.
