Sing Sing
Sing Sing tells the story of escapism in an area of confinement. Most people think of acting as a way to mask emotion, Sing Sing reframes it as a way release emotions.
Prison is usually portrayed as a place of torment and longing aching silence, but this film insists that within that pain, there's space to find hope to keep pushing, holding on tightly to yourself so you don't disappear in the process.
To me, this movie epitomises yearning. Every character is searching for themselves not just for physical freedom, but for emotional clarity for a sense of self. It's very raw and real in it's dialogue in a way that lingers.
To think that this didn't win any Oscars is crazy to me.
