Hunger
watched this on a monday evening expecting a thoughtful political drama. tell ya what i did not expect was a sickening, harsh piece where michael fassbender basically dies like 5 times.
about 95% of this movie i was making a repulsed face at the tv. i mean some real harrowing shit. i mean true human torture not only of physicality but also of mental and spiritual torture. i had to check my phone multiple times to be shocked every time that this happened from ‘73-‘81. i was horrified by the living conditions and the choice to literally paint the walls with shit. i then watched the clean up team forced to acknowledge the pain and torture these HUMANS were going through.
this is the type of movie that makes you think for weeks about it. little parts in your day will remind you of this film. i go on PTO after tomorrow and you bet your ass all day tomorrow i’ll be researching the troubles. i really wish i did research on these times before i watched the movie.
before im done can we please reflect on the cinematography?? A SEVENTEEN MINUTE LONG DIALOG IN SUNLIGHT AND CIGARETTE SMOKE?!?! cmon bruh get real. that shit was so good i was literally holding my piss until it was over. i could have paused the movie, but i was in a trance man.
speaking of cinematography again, i was encapsulated by the scenes of bobby sands in his last moments. the dark purple sky and a bare tree silhouette with crows flying off mixing with a passionate man who believes in justice passes. not ever budging on his beliefs. powerful stuff brotha.
"You want me to argue about the morality of what I'm about to do and whether it's really suicide or not? For one, you're calling it suicide. I call it murder. And that's just another wee difference between us two."
