Nowhere
"i'm only 18 years old and i'm totally doomed."
oh i have sooo many thoughts. first of all, the production and costume designers absolutely did their big one. every single frame had me gagged
i feel like this is a film that i will appreciate much more once i get more educated on its 90s social and historical context. i loved how it tackled topics like religion through bart and egg although it was deeply heartbreaking but grounded in such a harsh reality. underneath all the chaos, you spend most of the movie watching dark desperately yearn for a genuine connection. he just wants someone to truly see and appreciate him in a world that feels unhinged (not sure if that’s the right word to describe it).
when he finally finds that love and affection he was yearning for with montgomery at the end, montgomery starts violently coughing and then an alien bursts out of him causing him to explode, and the abrupt tragedy of it all kinda felt bleak. but i think that bleakness makes sense in the logistics of the movie because it reflects the sad reality of queer existence at the time especially with the aids crisis going on and rampant homophobia. so i get why the film leans so heavily into that sense of inevitable doom
a rewatch is definitely happening once i learn a bit more but this one is going to be stuck in my head for a while. whewww
